November 9, 2024 Agnostini Park and Fjord

We opted to have a quiet morning on the ship while the hardier of the guests went out in the rain for zodiac cruises and kayaking. I waited for the rain to stop, which it did, and went on the afternoon walk around a lake to a glacier. Lovely!

From our daily program:

“During the night we make our way southward into the large fjord of Agostini and the huge national park also named Alberto de Agostini. Father Alberto Maria De Agostini was a famous Italian missionary who explored, mountain climbed, photographed, and wrote about the southern reaches of Chile. Most off the time he was hiking and climbing was not dressed in fancy equipment, but in robes.”

We walked along the fjord then took a right to get to the lake and the glacier

Marcos Goldin, the geologist on board. It’s impossible to be on this trip and not have questions about how this area came to be.
